BOSTON, MA – Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has again been named by The Boston Globe as one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts for the 16th consecutive year.

Members of the Consigli team celebrated the award at an event on December 4, where the company was also recognized as one of the longest-running companies on the annual list.

Each year, companies and workplaces across Massachusetts are recognized by The Boston Globe as Top Places to Work based on employee feedback captured through surveys. The survey measures employee opinions about their company’s direction, execution, connection, management, work, pay and benefits, and engagement. The employers are placed into one of four groups: small (50-99 employees); medium (100-249 employees); large (250-999 employees); and largest (1,000 or more employees).

This recognition in the large employers category was earned through Consigli’s commitment to fostering a strong culture, generous benefits and opportunities for development for its employees. A 100% employee-owned (ESOP) company since 2018, in addition to resources that support the physical and mental health of employees and their families, Consigli also provides its people with a direct benefit of its success.

Additionally, Consigli offers 24 hours of paid volunteer time, generous 401K matching, fitness reimbursement and wellness incentives, summer Fridays, parental leave and a culture that encourages work life balance. Various Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) also work collaboratively and thoughtfully to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all employees.

Consigli has been consistently named a Top Place to Work regionally in Maine, Connecticut, New York and Washington, D.C., and has previously been recognized nationally as a Forbes Best Employer.

PORTLAND, ME – Consigli Construction Co., Inc.’s commitment to safety excellence was recently recognized by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England in its annual 2024 Best Regional Project Awards, with the Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts project receiving the top safety honor.

The largest academic project in Colby College history, and the campus’ new home for music, cinema studies and performance, theater and dance departments, the 74,000 sq. ft. Gordon Center serves as one of the most advanced and innovative performing arts facilities in New England. To achieve the Gordon Center’s innovative design, complete with highly specialized acoustical treatments able to adapt to multiple disciplines and performance types, Consigli collaborated closely with the design team and performed meticulous quality assurance work to ensure that the Center’s performance spaces met design specifications and standards.

Completed on a busy, occupied campus and sited on bedrock that required blasting in a heavily-trafficked area to install foundations and utilities, Consigli exceeded jobsite safety standards and prioritized the protection of the Colby College community through extensive safety planning and constant communication with students and faculty.

Leveraging its in-house resources and expertise, Consigli enlisted both its proven pre-fabrication approach to streamline delivery and minimize on-site work during inclement weather, as well as its self-perform division to perform the installation of the building’s custom limestone façade and parts of the acoustic panel installation.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – 345 Hudson Decarbonization – Phase 1, trailblazing project utilizing advanced Nordic design principles of holistic energy recycling and electrification to decarbonize the century-old building, was honored by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New York with its 2024 Excellence in Sustainability Award.

Consigli and its energy division, Arch Energy, have worked collaboratively with project partners to rapidly electrify 345 Hudson by replacing steam and natural gas systems. Using proven, innovative technologies from Electric.nyc, Phase 1 will enable renewable energy within the existing building infrastructure and replace outdated systems powered by steam and natural gas with smart electric-powered systems. Leveraging these new systems, 345 Hudson and adjacent buildings will be connected through micro-grids to create shared, efficient and circular heating and cooling.

Once complete, 345 Hudson’s retrofit is expected to reduce emissions by at least 70 percent and support compliance with New York City’s Local Law 97, which mandates large buildings significantly reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

Developed by Hudson Square Properties (HSP), a collaboration between Hines, Trinity Church Wall Street, and Norges Bank, the award-winning project received NYSERDA’s first Empire Building Challenge grant to support decarbonization efforts.

Members of the Consigli and Arch Energy teams, alongside project partners, received the award at a Nov. 12 celebration hosted by ENR.

MANCHESTER, NH – Engineering News-Record (ENR) recently featured Vance Freymann, Regional Director – New Hampshire, in its September edition of the Manchester, N.H. City Scoop. The regional, monthly column in ENR highlights local industry leaders and their observations on current market trends.

Freymann discussed the sustained growth Consigli continues to see in the academic market sector, with ongoing projects on the campuses of Dartmouth College, the University of New Hampshire and Phillips Exeter Academy, which Freymann anticipates will “have quite a bit more construction planned in the near future.”

He also highlighted the continued, and growing, demand for the incorporation of sustainable building materials and approaches in projects across market sectors. Consigli has a demonstrated expertise in the use of mass timber, and Freymann noted that the firm expects to “see more of [it] next year and beyond.”

Freymann also offered insight into the expected market trends and upcoming opportunities in New Hampshire, including the increased interest regionally in the potential of office to residential conversion projects to mitigate the area’s housing shortage. According to Freymann, the healthcare and advanced technology markets also “have good opportunity and good future potential in this area.”

NEW YORK, NY – This summer, Consigli Construction Co., Inc. partnered with the New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) as the only general contractor to participate in its Industry Scholars Program, which provides high school internship opportunities to Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Future Ready (FRNYC) students served by NYC Public Schools.

“High school internships are an important resource for employers and students alike, offering both the construction workforce and young learners with a strong foundation on which to build the next generation of industry leaders,” said Laura Bush, Consigli Construction Co., Inc. Regional Director – NYC Metro Region. “As my own interest in a career in construction was inspired by a high school internship opportunity, I know firsthand the transformative experience that early exposure and engagement can have on a student’s future, and Consigli was proud to serve as a partner in this impactful program.”

Consigli previously partnered in 2023 with the Bronx High School of Science to provide high school students with internships on its Stanley Manne ’52 Institute of Science project, one of the first fully electrified laboratory buildings in New York City.

“Our partnership with Consigli Construction through the Industry Scholars Program exemplifies the power of collaboration between NYC Public Schools and industry leaders. These collaborations provide our students with invaluable opportunities to engage directly with industry professionals, gaining not only technical skills but also the confidence and inspiration to pursue their career aspirations,” said Jade Grieve, Chief of Student Pathways for NYC Public Schools. “We are grateful for Consigli’s commitment to mentoring and guiding our students, helping to shape the next generation of leaders in the construction industry.”

Amari Young and Abner Rodriguez, both students at the Bronx Design & Construction Academy, worked alongside and learned from the Consigli project management and field operations teams on two active construction projects: 4650 Broadway and Columbia University’s 611 West 112th Street renovation. They built on their CTE curriculum, including carpentry and pre-engineering and architectural drafting pathways, with hands-on learning and skills-building on the jobsite.

“We are very proud of the impact the Industry Scholars Program has on New York City students, and it is because of partnerships with companies like Consigli that the program is so successful. This summer, students Amari and Abner had the opportunity to be deeply involved in real-world construction projects, with the guidance and mentorship of their onsite supervisors,” said Doug Cotter, CEO of Grant Associates. “Work-based learning experiences like this are often life-changing for youth, and we deeply appreciate Consigli’s partnership. The hands-on experience, technical knowledge, and professional skills these students gained are invaluable as they pursue careers in construction. This collaboration exemplifies our shared commitment to preparing the next generation of industry leaders in New York City.”

Launched in 2016, the Industry Scholars Program offers industry-specific paid career-connected learning programs aimed at helping high school students apply knowledge from the classroom to real-world work experience. Operated by Grant Associates, the NYC Public School’s Industry Scholars Program connects employers with Career & Technical Education (CTE) and Future Ready (FRNYC) high school students to advance their education and career aspirations to help build the future of New York City’s workforce.

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – Williams College’s Davis Center has been honored by Engineering News-Record (ENR) New England as a recipient of the 2024 Award of Merit in its annual Regional Best Project Awards. It received the award in the Higher Education/Research category for the New England region, and was recently featured in ENR’s November issue.

The Davis Center, the College’s center for the advancement of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion, connects multiple buildings on campus and transformed existing facilities to better reflect the Center’s mission and serve current and future academic and cultural needs. Through a major new addition and comprehensive energy retrofit renovations to the 19th century Rice and Jenness Houses, the new Davis Center provides fully accessible resources and community spaces for students and faculty.

Utilizing mass timber and engineered wood hybrid materials, the all-electric project removed fossil fuel-based heating systems and was built to rigorous environmental standards to support the College’s commitment to sustainability. It is targeting Petal Certification under the Living Building Challenge, as well as strict Energy Use Index requirements to reduce energy loads on campus.

Project teams recognized by ENR’s panel of judges were evaluated on their ability to overcome challenges, contribute to industry innovation and benefit the community, as well as overall excellence in design, construction and safety execution.
